Say: Shall we cry, instead of unto Allah, unto that which neither profiteth us nor hurteth us, and shall we turn back after Allah hath guided us, like one bewildered whom the devils have infatuated in the earth, who hath companions who invite him to the guidance (saying): Come unto us? Say: Lo! the guidance of Allah is Guidance, and we are ordered to surrender to the Lord of the Worlds [Translation of al-An'am,6:71 by Abdullah Yusuf Ali]

A NAS A WEEK - 19 RABI'UL AKHIR 1439H

And remember that Abraham was tried by his Lord with certain commands which he fulfilled; He said: "I will make thee an Imam to the nations." He pleaded: "And also (Imams) from my offspring!" He answered: "But my promise is not within the reach of evil-doers."(1) [Translation of al-Baqarah,2:124 by Abdullah Yusuf Ali]

Note (1): Kalimat: literally "words" here used in the mystic sense of God's Will or Decree or Purpose. This verse may be taken to be the sum of the verses following. In everything Abraham fulfilled God's wish: he purified God's house; he built the sacred refuge of the Ka'ba; he submitted his will to God's, and thus became the type of Islam. He was promised the leadership of the world; he pleaded for his progeny, and his prayer was granted, with the limitation that if his progeny was false to God, God's promise did not reach the people who proved themselves false.

Arrogance means rejecting the truth and looking down on people.” [Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 91; Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Muslim].

A NAS A WEEK - 5 RABI'UL AKHIR 1439H

The blame is only against those who oppress men with wrong-doing and insolently transgress beyond bounds through the land defying right and justice: for such there will be a Penalty grievous(1) [Translation of al-Shuraa, 42:42 by Abdullah Yusuf Ali].

Note (1)
The fact that men seek the lower rather than the higher Law is itself a result of arrogant wrong-doing of which the type was the Pharaoh who claimed to be "your Lord Most High" and oppressed the Israelites, and kept his own people under slavery and subjection, and the false glamour of magic and deception.

Aisha reported: A man sought permission to enter the home of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, and the Prophet said, “Admit him, for wretched is the son of a hostile clan and wretched is the man of a hostile clan.” When the man entered, the Prophet spoke to him gently. Aisha said, “O Messenger of Allah, you said what you said about him and then you spoke to him gently.” The Prophet said, “O Aisha, the worst of people in position to Allah on the Day of Resurrection are those whom people abandon or leave alone for fear of their vulgarity.”

A NAS A WEEK - 21 RABI'UL AWWAL 1439H

Leave alone those who take their religion to be mere play and amusement, and are deceived by the life of this world. But proclaim (to them) this (truth): that every soul delivers itself to ruin by its own acts: it will find for itself no protector or intercessor except Allah. if it offered every ransom, (or reparation), none will be accepted: such is (the end of) those who deliver themselves to ruin by their own acts: they will have for drink (only) boiling water, and for punishment, one most grievous: for they persisted in rejecting Allah [Translation of al-An'am, 6:70 by Abdullah Yusuf Ali].

Al-Mughira ibn Shu’ba reported: On the day the Prophet’s son Abraham died, the sun eclipsed and the people said the eclipse was because of the death of Abraham. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “The sun and the moon are two signs among the signs of Allah and they do not eclipse because of the death or birth of any person.
