A NAS A WEEK - 25 DZULHIJJAH 1440

Abu Sa’id reported: A bedouin came to the Prophet and asked him about emigration. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Woe to you! The matter of emigration is difficult. Have you got some camels?” The man said yes. The Prophet said, “Do you pay its charity?” The man said yes. The Prophet said, “Do you let them be used by others?” The man said yes. The Prophet said, “Do you milk them on the proper day?” The man said yes. The Prophet said, “Then do good deeds beyond the sea. Verily, Allah will never disregard any of your deeds.” [Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 3708, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1865. Grade: Muttafaqun Alayhi (authenticity agreed upon) according to Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

Ibn Hajar said, “His saying ‘do good deeds beyond the sea‘ is an expression indicating that his good deeds will not be wasted no matter where he is.” [Source: Fatḥ al-Bārī 3708]

5 SUCCESSFUL VIVA VOCE

ISDEV lecturers and students were there to provide support for the RISDEV students facing their viva voce.
The Centre for Islamic Development Management Studies (ISDEV) Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), has added five more RISDEV (ISDEV by Postgraduate) students in its annals of ISDEV Alumni members. The five RISDEV students all of whom pursued at the PhD levels are Nurul Suhada Ismail, Mohd 'Adli Zahri, Mohammad Syukri Jalil, Noor Hidayah Samsudin and Ustaz Amir Mohd Nason.
An ISDEV tradition - a group photo taken after the solat hajat was carried out in the morning of a RISDEV student's viva.
As usual, prior to the viva voce for all these five RISDEV students, the nawafil solat hajat was conducted congregationally at Anjung ISDEV (a building right behind D04) wherein a special invocation is supplicated to Allah SWT that should the RISDEV student's thesis be of benefit to him/her, to the ummah and to Islam then make ease for his/her to pass the viva. However if the RISDEV student's thesis will bring harm to him/her by making him/her more arrogant and filled with the mazmumah (despicable) characteristics and unable to contribute to the ummah and Islam, then it was beseeched that the results be otherwise. A deep understanding and realisation, that the ultimate results, is with Allah SWT.
Nurul Suhada Ismail during her viva.

A NAS A WEEK - 10 DZULHIJJAH 1440

Jabir ibn Abdullah reported: I was present with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, on Eid al-Adha at the place of prayer. When the Prophet finished his sermon, he came down from his pulpit and a ram was brought to him. The Prophet slaughtered it with his own hand, saying, “In the name of Allah and Allah is the greatest. This is from me and those of my nation who cannot offer a sacrifice.”

Al-Tirmidhi said, “This was acted upon by the people of knowledge among the companions of the Prophet (ṣ) and others, that a man should say at the time of slaughtering: In the name of Allah, and Allah is the greatest. It is the opinion of Ibn al-Mubarak.”

A NAS A WEEK - 3 DZULHIJJAH 1440

Know therefore that there is no god but Allah and ask forgiveness for the fault and for the men and women who believe: for Allah knows how ye move about and how ye dwell in your homes.  4841   4842 [The English Translation of Muhammad, 47:19 by Abdullah Yusuf Ali].

Notes:
4841 - Every mortal according to his nature and degree of spiritual enlightenment falls short of the perfect standard of Allah (xvi. 61), and should therefore ask Allah for forgiveness. What is merit in an ordinary man may be a human shortcoming in one nearest to Allah: see xxxviii. 24-25, and notes 4175-76 (of the English Translation of the Quran bu Abdullah Yusuf Ali). Prophets have a further responsibility for their People or their Ummat, and they ask in a representative capacity.
4842 - The time and manner of our conducting ourselves at home and when we move about on our business are all material to the judgment of our conduct, and for every nuance in our moral and spiritual progress, we must seek Allah's help and guidance.
