Rapt attention when Prof Syukri Salleh delivers his lectures

The program was divided into two sessions. The first session was held in the morning and started off with a Tazkirah by ISDEV Director, Professor Muhammad Syukri Salleh. He brought back old memories on the establishment of ISDEV and everyone was curious to know the whole history of ISDEV and thus gave their full attention. However, the Tazkirah given that morning was the first part of many series of Tazkirah to be given by ISDEV Director. There would be a continuem of the Tazkirah in future supervisions.

The second session then continued with a lecture by Prof. Syukri on "Kaedah Penulisan Tesis". After a brilliantly brief yet accurate explanation on this topic, a lively Q&A session took place before the session was closed for ISDEV brothers to perform the obligatory congregational Jumaat prayer.

No chair was spared - a packed Ibn Khaldun Meeting Room at IPS

The second session, which was in the afternoon, was reserved for a PhD Thesis Presentation by Heri Kusmanto. He presented his findings from his completed draft PhD Thesis on "Masyarakat Sivil Berteraskan Islam di Indonesia: Politik Akomodasi dan Upaya Pendemokrasian Muhammadiyah dan Al-Washliyah di Sumatera Utara" (Islamic-based Civil Society in Indonesia: Political Accommodation and  Democratization Efforts of Muhammadiyah and Al-Washliyah in Northern Sumatera). He is currently a student supervised by Dr. Mohamad Zaini Abu Bakar while Professor Muhammad Syukri Salleh is a co-supervisor. His thesis was evaluated by  Dr. Zahri Hamat.

A cool calm collected yet focused Heri Kusmanto

With the time allotted for 40 minutes, he presented his thesis wisely and strove to answer all the questions posed from the attending members. Finally he could sigh a heave of relief and gratefulness because the evaluator and lecturers agreed that his thesis was qualified to be submitted to the Institute of Postgraduate Studies, USM upon him refining some minor corrections.
