Narrated Salman ibn Amir: The Prophet (salallahu 'alaihi wassalam) said: When one of you is fasting, he should break his fast with dates; but if he cannot get any, then (he should break his fast) with water, for water is purifying [Hadith from the Translation of Sunan Abu Dawud, Book No. 13: Fasting (Kitab al-Siyam) Hadith Number 2348].
