A NAS A WEEK - 1 SAFAR 1441H

But those who before them had homes (in Medina) and had adopted the Faith show their affection to such as came to them for refuge and entertain no desire in their hearts for things given to the (latter) but give them preference over themselves even though poverty was their (own lot). And those saved from the covetousness of their own souls they are the ones that achieve prosperity.  5383 [The English Translation of al-Hasyr, 59:9 by Abdullah Yusuf Ali].

Notes:5383 - This refers to the Ansar (the Helpers), the people of Madinah who accepted Islam when it was persecuted in Makkah, and who invited the holy Prophet to join them and become their Leader in Madinah. The Hijrat was possible because of their goodwill and their generous hospitality. They entertained the Prophet and all the refugees (Muhajirs) who came with him. The most remarkable ties of full brotherhood were established between individual members of the one group and the other. Until the Ummat got its own resources, the Helpers regularly gave and the Refugees regularly received. The Helpers counted it a privilege to entertain the Refugees, and even the poor vied with the rich in their spirit of self-sacrifice. When the confiscated land and property of the Banu Nadhir was divided, and the major portion was assigned to the refugees, there was not the least jealousy on the part of the Helpers. They rejoiced in the good fortune of their brethren. And incidentally they were themselves relieved of anxiety and responsibility on their behalf.

A NAS A WEEK - 23 MUHARRAM 1441

Ibn Abbas reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “There is no believing servant but that he has a sin he habitually commits from time to time, or a sin abiding over him that he does not abandon until he departs the world. Verily, the believer was created to be tested, repenting and forgetful. If he is reminded, he will remember.” [Source: al-Mu’jam al-Kabīr 11810. Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Al-Albani]

A NAS A WEEK - 16 MUHARRAM 1441H

If ye help not (your Leader) (it is no matter): for Allah did indeed help him: when the unbelievers drove him out: he had no more than one companion: they two were in the cave and he said to his companion "have no fear for Allah is with us": then Allah sent down his peace upon him and strengthened him with forces which ye saw not and humbled to the depths the word of the unbelievers. But the word of Allah is exalted to the heights: for Allah is Exalted in might Wise.  1302   1303   1304  [The English translation of at-Tawbah, 9:40 by Abdullah Yusuf Ali]

Notes:
1302 - The Tabuk expedition was not a failure. Though some hesitated, many more joined in. But a more striking example was when the Prophet was hunted out of Makkah and performed his famous Hijrat. His enemies plotted for his life. He had already sent his followers on to Madinah. Ali had volunteered to face his enemies in his house. His single companion was Abu Bakr. They two concealed themselves in the cave of Thaur, three miles from Makkah, for three nights, with the enemy prowling around in great numbers in fruitless search of them. "We are but two," said Abu Bakr. "Nay," said Muhammad, "for Allah is with us." Faith gave their minds peace, and Allah gave them safety. They reached Madinah, and a glorious chapter opened for Islam. The forces that helped them were not seen, but their power was irresistible.
1303 - "The second of two," which afterwards became Abu Bakr's proud title.
1304 - The superlatives in the Arabic I have rendered by the periphrasis, "humbled to the depths" and "exalted to the heights," as they accord better with the genius of the English language. The enemies of Islam had boasted that they would root it out: the result showed them up as ridiculous and despicable.

Abu Sa’id reported: A bedouin came to the Prophet and asked him about emigration. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Woe to you! The matter of emigration is difficult. Have you got some camels?” The man said yes. The Prophet said, “Do you pay its charity?” The man said yes. The Prophet said, “Do you let them be used by others?” The man said yes. 5 SUCCESSFUL VIVA VOCE

ISDEV lecturers and students were there to provide support for the RISDEV students facing their viva voce.
The Centre for Islamic Development Management Studies (ISDEV) Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), has added five more RISDEV (ISDEV by Postgraduate) students in its annals of ISDEV Alumni members. The five RISDEV students all of whom pursued at the PhD levels are Nurul Suhada Ismail, Mohd 'Adli Zahri, Mohammad Syukri Jalil, Noor Hidayah Samsudin and Ustaz Amir Mohd Nason.
An ISDEV tradition - a group photo taken after the solat hajat was carried out in the morning of a RISDEV student's viva.
As usual, prior to the viva voce for all these five RISDEV students, the nawafil solat hajat was conducted congregationally at Anjung ISDEV (a building right behind D04) wherein a special invocation is supplicated to Allah SWT that should the RISDEV student's thesis be of benefit to him/her, to the ummah and to Islam then make ease for his/her to pass the viva. However if the RISDEV student's thesis will bring harm to him/her by making him/her more arrogant and filled with the mazmumah (despicable) characteristics and unable to contribute to the ummah and Islam, then it was beseeched that the results be otherwise. A deep understanding and realisation, that the ultimate results, is with Allah SWT.
Nurul Suhada Ismail during her viva.
The first to face her viva voce was Nurul Suhada Ismail. Her viva was held on 9 May, 2019 and she was called into the Conference Room of C23, School of Social Sciences, for her viva close to 9:30 am that day.

A NAS A WEEK - 10 DZULHIJJAH 1440

Jabir ibn Abdullah reported: I was present with the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, on Eid al-Adha at the place of prayer. When the Prophet finished his sermon, he came down from his pulpit and a ram was brought to him. The Prophet slaughtered it with his own hand, saying, “In the name of Allah and Allah is the greatest. This is from me and those of my nation who cannot offer a sacrifice.”

Al-Tirmidhi said, “This was acted upon by the people of knowledge among the companions of the Prophet (ṣ) and others, that a man should say at the time of slaughtering: In the name of Allah, and Allah is the greatest. It is the opinion of Ibn al-Mubarak.”

A NAS A WEEK - 3 DZULHIJJAH 1440

Know therefore that there is no god but Allah and ask forgiveness for the fault and for the men and women who believe: for Allah knows how ye move about and how ye dwell in your homes.  4841   4842 [The English Translation of Muhammad, 47:19 by Abdullah Yusuf Ali].

Notes:
4841 - Every mortal according to his nature and degree of spiritual enlightenment falls short of the perfect standard of Allah (xvi. 61), and should therefore ask Allah for forgiveness. What is merit in an ordinary man may be a human shortcoming in one nearest to Allah: see xxxviii. 24-25, and notes 4175-76 (of the English Translation of the Quran bu Abdullah Yusuf Ali). Prophets have a further responsibility for their People or their Ummat, and they ask in a representative capacity.
4842 - The time and manner of our conducting ourselves at home and when we move about on our business are all material to the judgment of our conduct, and for every nuance in our moral and spiritual progress, we must seek Allah's help and guidance.

And behold We said to the angels: "Bow down to Adam"; and they bowed down not so Iblis he refused and was haughty he was of those who reject Faith.  49 [English translation of al-Baqarah, 2: 34 by Abdullah Yusuf Ali]

Notes:
49 The Arabic may also be translated: "They bowed down, except Iblis." In that case Iblis (Satan) would be one of the angels. But the theory of fallen angels is not usually accepted in Muslim theology. In xviii, 50 Iblis is spoken of as a Jinn. We shall discuss later the meaning of this word.

A NAS A WEEK - 20 SHAWWAL 1440

The believers are but a single Brotherhood: So make peace and reconciliation between your two (contending) brothers: And fear Allah that ye may receive Mercy.  4928

Notes:
4928 - The enforcement of the Muslim Brotherhood is the greatest social ideal of Islam. On it was based the Prophet's Sermon at his last pilgrimage, and Islam cannot be completely realised until this ideal is achieved.
