On 29 September 2017, ISDEV participated in the fire drill that was conducted by Universiti Sains Malaysia Occupational Safety and Health Unit (Unit Keselamatan dan Kesihatan Pekerjaan Universiti, UKKPU). The live-fire exercise is an effort to create awareness among USM staff on the fire safety rules and evacuation during fire emergency. It is also a standard of procedure that need to be follow as the training step to avoid any emergency occurrence in the near future.

UKKPU is responsible for the management of occupational safety and health (KKP) in USM that is in line with the requirements of the national legislation, particularly the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994 and the Atomic Energy Licensing Act 1984.

The fire drill was led by Dr. Mohd Syakir Mod Rosdi who was in charge for ISDEV Safety and Health unit. A simple brief was given by En. Mohd Asro Ramli from UKKP, USM for the safety procedure and emergency exit during fire related emergency. A simple demonstration on how to quench the fire using fire extinguisher is also thought to all staff as the guideline for emergency.

Here is the 4 PASS simple step on how to use a fire extinguisher:
Pull the pin in the handle
Aim the nozzle at the base of the fire
Squeeze the lever slowly
Sweep from side to side until the fire is put out
PASS step is use to put out the fire |
Also at present on that day were staff from Graduate School of Business (GSB) and Centre for Policy Research and International Studies (CenPRIS).
