ISDEV'S JOURNAL OF ISLAMIC DEVELOPMENT POLITICS

ISDEV is now having a journal called Journal of Islamic Development Politics (JISDEV). It is a bi-annual journal, co-published in Indonesia with Centre for Islamic Political Development (CISDEV) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) and Graduate Programme of Universitas Medan Area (UMA), in English and Indonesian languages.

The journal was launched by ISDEV Director Professsor Muhammad Syukri Salleh, who is also the Chairman of the journal's Board of Advisors, on 15 March 2011 during the International Workshop on Islamic-Based Development (WAPI) at Universitas Muhammadiyah Sumatera Utara (UMSU), Indonesia.

The first issue of the journal was out in January this year, containing 4 articles in Indonesian language and 2 articles in English. The Editor-in-Chiefs are Dr Fadzila Azni Ahmad of ISDEV and Heri Kusmanto of UMA, while its Executive Editor is Warjio of USU. On Wednesday, 4 May, 2011, the Islamic Development Management Section of the School of Social Sciences gave the nod of approval to Roslan Hassan and Mohd Shukri Hanapi to proceed with their Master thesis and PhD thesis respectively. They presented their proposals before a packed room at the Meeting Room of C05.

Roslan, a full-time Master (by Research) student, was first to present his research proposal on “Pengurusan Konflik Dalam Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam: Satu Analisis Dari Perspektif Islam” (Conflict Management in the Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam: An Analysis from the Islamic Perspective). He gets the affirmation to proceed from ISDEV Director, Professor Muhammad Syukri Salleh who evaluated his proposal. Roslan’s supervisor, Dr. Mohamad Zaini Abu Bakar, who is currently on sabbatical leave was represented by Dr Zahri Hamat.

Thereafter Mohd Shukri Hanapi presented his proposal on “Tasawur Pembangunan Dalam al-Quran: Kajian Tafsir al-Mawdu'iy” (Development World View in the Quran: A Study of Tafsir al Mawdu’iy). His proposal was assessed by Dr Fadzila Azni Ahmad who gave him an excellent grade for the well-written proposal. Mohd Shukri is currently conducting his PhD research under the guidance of Professor Muhammad Syukri Salleh and Dr. Mohd. Nizam Sahad from the School of Humanities.
