A NAS A WEEK - 20 JAMADIL AKHIR 1440

Abu Huraira reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “To declare the glory of Allah, the praise of Allah, the oneness of Allah, and the greatness of Allah is more beloved to me than anything over which the sun rises.” [Source: Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 2695. Grade: Sahih (authentic) according to Muslim]

A NAS A WEEK - 13 JAMADIL AKHIR 1440

And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands their fathers their husbands' fathers their sons their husbands' sons their brothers or their brothers' sons or their sisters' sons or their women or the slaves whom their right hands possess or male servants free of physical needs or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah that ye may attain Bliss.  2984   2985   2986   2987

Notes:

2984The need for modesty is the same in both men and women. But on account of the differentiation of the sexes in nature, temperaments, and social life, a greater amount of privacy is required for women than for men, especially in the matter of dress and the uncovering of the bosom.

2985 - Zinat means both natural beauty and artificial ornaments. I think both are implied here, but chiefly the former. The woman is asked not to make a display of her figure except to the following classes of people: (1) her husband, (2) her near relatives whom a certain amount of neglige is permissible; (3) her women, (4) slaves, male and female, as they would be in constant attendance; but this item would now be blank, with the abolition of slavery; (5) men who are free from sexual desire and who usually frequent the houses; and (6) infants or small children before they get a sense of sex. Cf. also xxxiii. 59.

2986 - It is one of the tricks of showy or unchaste women to tinkle their ankle ornaments, to draw attention to themselves,

2987 - While all these details of the purity and good form of domestic life are being brought to our attention, we are clearly reminded that the chief object we should hold in view is our spiritual welfare. All our brief life on this earth is a probation, and we must make our individual, domestic, and social life all contribute to our holiness, so that we can get the real success and bliss which is the aim of our spiritual endeavor.

A NAS A WEEK - 29 JAMADIL AWWAL 1440

Those who believe and work righteousness for them is forgiveness and a sustenance most generous2829 [Translation of al-Hajj, 22: 50 by Abdullah Yusuf Ali]

Notes:
2829 - The "sustenance" must be construed in the widest sense, spiritual as well as intellectual and physical. The reward of righteousness is far more generous than any merit there may be in the creature following the Will of his Creator.

PROF SYUKRI: EMBEDDING ISLAM IN NATION'S DEVELOPMENT

Prof Syukri at KITA.
On 24 January, 2019 Professor Dr. Muhammad Syukri Salleh was at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). He was there on invitation by the Institute of Ethnic Studies (KITA) to present and share his views at the Bengkel Acuan Islam Dalam Kehidupan Muslim di Malaysia (Workshop on the Islamic Mould in the Lives of the Muslims in Malaysia) organised by KITA. The workshop which started at 10am was chaired by Dr. Azlina Abdullah (aka Dr. Lynn) from UKM.
Stating the choice to take if embedding Islam is truly wanted and needed.
His presentation topic was on Membudaya & Menyulam KeIslaman Dalam Pembangunan Negara at the Meeting Room of KITA, Tingkat 4, Blok Pentadbiran Kolej Keris Mas, UKM. Prof. Syukri started his presentation by stating the present development worldview that Malaysia is in. He then went on to state that within the purview of such current development worldview, it is highly unlikely that the culturalization and embedding of Islam into the nation's development can be achieved. He cited a few examples of the non-sustainability of the various Islamic-based development approaches experienced in Malaysia especially the top-down approach.
Prof Syukri explaining his stand to KITA members while on the right is Dr. Lynn.
According to Prof Syukri, through his empirical research and analysis,  culturalizing and embedding Islam can only be holistically carried out when the mould of the development closely follows that of the Islamic worldview. This has been achieved. However most of these can be found at the grassroot's or at the organisational level as proven in Indonesia and Thailand.

Besides Prof Syukri, the other panelists for the second part of the morning session was Prof. Dato’ Dr. Teo Kok Seng. and Mr. Ann Wang Seng.
