ISDEV WELCOMES NEW MISDEV16 STUDENTS FOR SEMESTER 1 2016/2017

For the academic year 2016/2017 Semester I, ISDEV welcomes of new batch of Masters (Mixed-Mode) students on 2 September 2016 at the DKA, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). 16 new students have been accepted to pursue their Masters in Islamic Development Management. In continuation of ISDEV tradition, this new batch of students is collectively known as MISDEV16.1.

The second session continued with multimedia presentation prepared by ISDEV Associate Members (ABI) focusing on ISDEV activities that are to be participated by previous MISDEV students throughout their studies at ISDEV. In this session, ABI representative played his role to explain further about ISDEV activities to share with them the thrill and excitement felt by being actively involved in the activities undertaken.

Praise to Allah SWT for the success of RISDEV (ISDEV postgraduate by research) candidate Musmuliadi Kamaruding in his viva voce on 25 August 2016. The viva took place at C23, Social Science Conference Room, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

The chairman for his viva was Prof. Dato' Dr. Sohaimi Abdul Aziz while the External Examiner was Dr. Nor Azzah Kamri. His two Internal Examiners were Associate Prof. Dr. Mohd Wira Mohd Shafiei and Dr. Fadzila Azni Ahmad. Musmuliadi was supervised by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Syukri Salleh and co-supervised by Dr. Shahir Akram Hassan. He defended his thesis on Konsep Pengurusan Kepadatan Manusia Berteraskan Islam: Kajian Pengurusan Kepadatan Jemaah Haji Lembaga Tabung Haji di Mekah (The Concept of Islamic Crowd Management: A Study On The Crowd Management of Hajj Pilgrims By Lembaga Tabung Haji In Mecca).

During Musmuliadi's viva, the air was definitely tensed as he was fielded with various questions from the examiners but he managed to answer all questions calmly. Prof. Dato' Dr. Sohaimi announced that Musmuliadi passed his viva with flying colours.

SUSTAINABLE & INTEGRATED HUMANITARIAN COLLABORATION WITH ISLAMIC RELIEF MALAYSIA

On, 24 August 2016, ISDEV has
taken a big step to enhance the networking and collaborate with Islamic Relief
Malaysia (IRM) for sustainable and integrated humanitarian project for
community development. The community development project is located at the
small island in South Seberang Perai, Penang named as Aman Island or well known
by the locals as Pulau Aman.
Established in 2005, IRM has
expanded to a bigger family with 36 full-time and short-term staff and more
than 3000 volunteers. IRM is the Malaysia-based Islamic humanitarian NGO.
Recognized by United Nation (UN), Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC),
Islamic Development Bank as well as the European Union (EU), IRM practiced a
high transparency in financial and professionalism management that involved a
wide scope of humanitarian sectors locally and abroad.

The IRM team was led by its
country Director, En. Zairulshahfuddin Zainal Abidin, with Puan Siti Fadilah
Mohd Hood (Senior Manager of Fundraising Division) as well as En. Azlan Shah
Lazim (Senior Officer of Relief & Programmes Divisions). The IRM team pays
a visit to ISDEV to discuss on the community development project planning at Pulau Aman.

In the end of the meeting, ISDEV
and IRM agreed on three arrangements succeeding towards accomplishing the
community development in Pulau Aman.
First is to hold a visit to Pulau Aman
on the 4 September 2016. Second is to sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with
ISDEV, USM in particular. Third, ISDEV would obtain and acquire research grant
pertaining to the community development project while IRM will continue in
fundraising the donations towards Pulau
Aman. The collaboration of ISDEV and IRM aims to develop the society in Pulau Aman as Islamic sustainable
community with an Ideal Islamic-centric tourism industry and to
accomplish the Faith Inspired Actions ideas.

Besides ISDEV, Malaysia
Electronic Payment System (MEPS), Esm Machinery (KI) Sdn Bhd (ESM), DHL Express
(DHL) and Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE) are also involved in the
community development of Pulau Aman. It
is hope that this collaboration of sustainable and integrating humanitarian
between ISDEV and IRM will continuously grow in the future.

KUIS PAYS A VISIT TO ISDEV

Centre for Islamic Development Management Studies (ISDEV), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) was recently honoured with the visit from the Research Management Centre (RMC), International Islamic University College Selangor or best known as Kolej Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Selangor (KUIS). KUIS representative paid an honourary visit to ISDEV on 23 August 2016 at the new ISDEV meeting room in D04, USM.

The four members of RMC KUIS entourage was led Dr. Mohd Farid Ravi Abdullah, The Director of RMC KUIS , Encik Ahmad Yani, Puan Azimah Mohd Masri and Puan Siti Nor Ahmad while ISDEV team was lead by ISDEV Director, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Syukri Salleh.
The visit is part of the networking and potential collaboration between ISDEV-KUIS in order to share the knowledge and research idea as well as strengthening the ukhuwah between the two research centre. The visit also is one of the efforts in producing more world class research between the two institutions in providing solution as well as guidelines on the best practice in any field of studies.

A formal discussion as well as an in-depth explanation on ISDEV and the various Islamic Development Management research scopes which included the past and on-going research that ISDEV is embarked in as well as ISDEV plans for the future were also explained by Prof. Dr. Muhammad Syukri Salleh who chaired the meeting. An open dialogue-session took place among RMC KUIS entourage and ISDEV lecturers before the end of the visit.

Two ISDEV delegation led by Dr.
Shahir Akram Hassan and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Syukri Salleh were in Vietnam for seven days starting on 31st July 2016 for the CLMV
Research on Leadership in Islamic Service Management: Indigenous Versus
Exogenous Leadership in Vietnam. The research is under marketing program on
national education at Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam (CLMV) where the
program was organized by Ministry of Education Malaysia (MOE). The main purpose of
the research is to enable Malaysia to offer its expertise to the regional
countries, and other developing countries in term of research, learning and
teaching, community networks, quality assurance and leadership. The research
includes the scope of Islamic hospitality which target the Islamic service
providers such as restaurants, hotel, tourist guide and others.

Begin the jouney with the target group of
Muslim living in Vietnam, Dr. Shahir Akram and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Sukri Salleh
pay a visit to Islamic Community Ly Du So to develop a strong networking with
the Islamic community in Vietnam. The discussion with the Islamic community is
focusing on the Halal authority in Vietnam. Their journey continues with an
opportunity to meet Ms. Normala Baharudin. Ms. Normala has helped in arranging and
creating a networking between ISDEV, USM and Van Lang University, Social Science
and Humanity University as well as the University of Economics, Vietnam.

The journey was the first step of ISDEV
in exploring the potential of Vietnam in developing service management as well
as hospitality management as part of the research scope. Dr. Shahir Akram and
Prof. Dr. Muhammad Syukri Salleh have also been given the chance to interview
several academicians at Van Lang University and students of Social Science and
Humanities University and the University of Economics, Vietnam. This is a headstart to a
positive step forward in the CLMV research where Prof. Ngo Thanh Loan and Bang
Anh Tuan from Van Lang University has agreed to be the co-researcher and soon ISDEV
and Van Lang University will sign a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to strengthen
the relationship of collaboration in the future, Insyaallah.
