ISDEV IFTAR FOR 1433H/2012
Prior to Breaking of Fast: ISDEV members reciting the doa after the tahlil |
26 July - ISDEV Director, Professor Muhammad Syukri Salleh together with his beloved family broke the Ramadhan fast on the night of Thursday, with all ISDEV members at the Banquet Hall, Universiti Sains Malaysia. About 100 members consisting of lecturers and students gathered for this ISDEV annual faith-filled event.
ISDEV members in preparation to break the fast |
According to Prof Muhammad Syukri in his opening speech, Muslims abstain from food and liquid during the daylight hours of the holy month of Ramadhan and break the fast at sunset. The breaking of fast together is a way to share Islamic traditions and enjoy a meal together in friendship. Sharing food with others is an important part of marking the holiest month in Islam. Everybody is commanded to be very generous.

Guests at the dinner broke the fast with dates, te traditional way to end a Ramadhan fast and other fruits as well as with some traditional Malay 'kueh'. The congregational Maghrib prayer took place after having a simple brake with Ustaz Shahir Akram leading the jema'ah . He was also the Imam for the congregational Isya' prayer as well.
Guests then dined on the Malay-styled dishes and took this opportunity to acquaint with ISDEV family members. Indirectly, this will strengthen the relationship among ISDEV members.

The event came to an end when the Tarawih prayer took place which was led by Ustaz Wan Khairul Firdaus. May this event received the blessings of Allah SWT and that everyone is given the physical and mental strength to continue with their fast in this holy month of Ramadhan.

left-right : Ustaz Mohd Shukri Hanapi and Ustaz Muhammad Yasir Yusoff |
3 May - Congratulations and praise to Allah SWT for the success of two ISDEV PhD candidates, Ustaz Mohd Shukri Hanapi and Ustaz Muhammad Yasir Yusoff. They had finally completed their studies and have now officially received their doctorate title.
The candidates during their mock viva |
The first candidate, Ustaz Shukri hanapi's viva voce was scehduled in the morning. It could be discerned that he was a little jittery but he managed to answer all questions calmly. The chairman of the viva voce declared that all examiners were pleased not only with his written thesis but also the manner in which he was able to defend it excellently. He added that his thesis ought to be awarded at the School's level the very least, if not at the University's level.

2:30pm saw Ustaz Yasir's turn for his viva voce. The air was definitely tensed as the candidate was fielded various questions from the examiners. Although he was unable to agree to some of the questions asked and suggestions given by the examiners, he had managed to control the situation and respond with utmost calmness and clarity.
|
However, all wells that ends well. The palpitations that he might have felt during the oral examinations were well worth it. Ustaz Yasir who hails from Acheh, received the great news that he had passed his viva voce with flying colours and that his thesis should also be nominated for the best thesis award.
Congratulations to both candidates!

THE WEEKLY TUESDAY TEACHINGS
8 May- The tazkirah for this week was presented by Wan Nurhaniza with the title 'Anger and Forgiveness'. She started her tazkirah with a fact that everyone must have felt angry before. However it was wise to control that angry feeling.
According to her, in situation of anger, we must immediately think positive and look to our own mistakes rather than searching for other people's mistakes. If we are able to do that then we will be more willing to forgive others. Indeed to forgive another person could relieve other negative feelings within us and thus prevent us from being directly tied to those negative feelings.

After the Tazkirah, the week's lesson was continued by Ustaz Syakir who focused on the topic the way to benefit and understand knowledge.
